Marddy’s mission to preserve culinary culture exists primarily to serve independent black business owners. Our venders prepare traditional culturally relevant homemade food and Covid-19 has halted business for many of them.
If they are unable to maintain their membership, they will loose their Dept. Of Agriculture license and will be unable to legally grow their business.
Our vendors are the most vulnerable. Many live in rapidly gentrifying communities and are already threatened with displacement.
According to Forbes Covid-19 has wiped out nearly half of all small Black owned businesses. “Black firms suffer from “weaker cash positions, weaker bank relationships, and pre-existing funding gaps.”
